To be active participants in learning from modern data, our students require greater computational skills. But how do we integrate data science and programming (coding) with respect to statistics at high school, in ways that are accessible, engaging and empowering for all students? In this two-hour workshop, we will explore one sequence of tasks I’ve designed to transition statistics students from using current software to using the statistical programming language R. We’ll use free online tools to explore statistical modelling, considering how to integrate statistical and computational thinking and our complementary roles as learners and teachers. This workshop is for ALL teachers regardless of background or confidence with programming/coding. We will work in pairs, so come along with a friend or make a new one at the workshop! One large-screen device/tablet or laptop will be needed for each pair. [
